Bettye and Ben will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary in Maui on June 5, 2007. They met at Western Electric Co. in Los Angeles in 1941 after graduating from their high schools. They fell in love and married June 5, 1942.
Ben joined the U.S. Coast Guard in Feb. 1943. After boot camp and quartermaster school he was assigned to a weather ship in the Aleutians Islands. Bettye continued working as a key punch operator at Western Electric. Ben was discharged in Feb. 1946. They built their first house in Los Angeles with no experience in house construction. They did it again in 1954 when they built their second house in San Pedro, this time with a little experience.
Ben worked for the City of Los Angeles for 35 years as a Land Surveyor, retiring in 1977 and continuing on with private practice until 1996. They moved to Westlake Village in 1972, this time into a beautiful new house overlooking the lake that the real house builders built.
Their lives have been so blessed with 3 children, Ron, Rick and Christy, and 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren so far.
Bettye and Ben have been through all the highs and lows and still have a love for each other that is very special.
